how to ZipLoc your Camera

this is a very interesing idea. check out This post over at Instructables.com showing you how to put your Camera in a bag and use it while its in there. i dont know how water proof it would be, but its a very interesting idea. i will be building one of these for my camera, for when it starts raining. mind you, over the last few weeks, we havent had to worry about the weather in Dublin. Very nice! :)

Adobe LightRoom: impressions so far

I just installed Adobe Light Room, and my impressions so far are not great. here are some problems:

1: if I am in the develop section, and I select 5 photos, change the exposure of the main one, and then do some other work, LightRoom only changes the info for the first one, not all.

2: too much space being used at the top for useless stuff. see pic below (click for larger image):

It seems to me that the AdobeLightroom logo can be removed, as it serves no major purpose, since you know where you are anyway, and same with the 4 different links. they could easily be somewhere else.

3: I cant seem to get it to copy settings from one single image to multiple images.

still playing with it, but so far, I can see why its beta. Interestingly enough, its Tiny! the download weighs in at a little under 7 Mb! Aperture is huge, and the executable is something like 30mb on its own!

rebuilding your Aperture Photo library

Check out this post over at Aperture Tricks showing you how to rebuild your aperture library when it gets slow. I am having this problem at the moment. aperture takes ages to do anything. it may be my powerbook being slow (only 1Gb ram and 1.33Gz processor), it may be the hdd being slow and small (5400rpm and 60Gb) or it may be apertures library, but i think in any case, it may be all 3 :( ahhh well, we see what happens. handy tip though.

this article over at OutBackPhoto.com shows you how to fake the blur of depth of field in your photos. interesting tip. i have taken photos, and though they looked good on the screen of my camera, but found out that they where not as good as hoped when i got them home. mind you, after some experimenting, i have gotten it working, kind of, but handy tip none the less.

i think i just found one of the best uses for my iPod...

I am currnently using a powerbook for all my photography needs because of Apple's Aperture. but my current problem is i havent got a lot of network storange for all my photos (currently hitting the 20Gb mark). the powerbook has hit a limit on storage too (currently got a 60Gb disc and only has about 8b free). so i am currently using my 60Gb black video iPod as a external HDD for backing up my Aperture valut, which works well. i still need proper network backup storage, but it wont be for a few months. just a bit of useless info for you there...
